Tinacals are large winged saber-toothed cats. It has a robust build, long legs, a short face, long tufted ears, and long canine teeth that hang down like fearsome knives from the upper jaw, protruding menacingly even when the creature’s mouth is shut. Tinacals are orange and teal spotted furred feline creatures, with a tail with a flame at the tips. They have a thick mane around their neck. Two wings are located on their backs. Second only to dragons, it is the primal predator of tar-darach and many other worlds. They are known to kill beasts far larger than themselves.
The Eladrin have managed to domesticate a handful of these creatures, but raising and training them is highly dangerous and often unpredictable work. Tinacals have short tempers and very, very sharp teeth. Some “domesticated” tinacals have attacked and injured their riders after years of otherwise peaceful companionship. Despite the clear danger, experienced riders swear by the warmth and companionship of their mounts.
The tinacal’s oversized fangs are particularly sought after as trophies.
Typically nocturnal, the tinacal is highly secretive and difficult to observe. It is territorial, and lives mainly alone or in pairs.
